Lesson Task – Color systems and schemes

Part 1.

RGB:

RGB is predominantly used in web design as there is a vast amount of color options (16,000,000) that can be displayed on a monitor. Which is closer to the visible spectrum consisting of billions of colors. The primary colors of the RGB color system is Red Green and Blue. Moreover, is an additive color method, where the colors we see on a screen are created by lights, and as opposed to print, where light is reflected off of a surface, the light moves directly into the eye and is further perceived as color.

CMYK:

This color system is tied to printing, as a printers primary colors consist of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (Key). The colors that can be printed are limited when compared to the range of the RGB color system. Furthermore, this is a subtractive color method where one begins with white and end with black.

Part 2.

Make use of Adobe Colour and develop four different colour schemes. Please hand in screenshots of your schemes:

  • Monochromatic
  • Complementary
  • Triadic
  • Analogous

Following are some screenshots of the respective color schemes:
